Each day is charted out on page 5 of your booklet. If you see that you are missing a day you will be able to find it below. Day 1: Introduction to ART102

Step 1: Watch the video to the left if you missed the first days instructions. Step 2: On pg.12 in your booklet try the upside-down drawing practiced and answer the question at the bottom of the page. Project Planner, Project 1: You will be responsible for completing 3 projects, checklist found on page 5, self evaluations, and participating in critiques. Your project planner is a large part of each project grade. Planning your projects helps you as and artist to have a clear vision and meaning to your pieces. Use the "How to Think Big" hand out and the slide to the left to help you start breaking down your ideas. If you are having trouble thinking of and idea take a look at pg. 8 or click here to see some other examples of big ideas. |
Day 2: Rhythm and Movement

Step 1: Watch the video to the left on Rhythm and Movement take some notes on pg. 13 in your booklet.
Step 2: Think of some way you see Rhythm and Movement in your daily life. How can a rhythm enhance the over all composition of an artwork? Practice Rhythm: Connect Rhythm and Line Using either a thick, thin, bold, wavy, or any other kind of line to create rhythm and movement of the bottom of pg13. Sometime it help to think of a song or beat and how you would represent that sound wave as a line. Essential Question: How does the world around you effect your work as an artist? UNIT1 UbD |
Day 3: Proportion

Step 1: Watch the first video to the left on proportion.
Step 2: Answer the following questions found in the video. You can pause, re-watch, and use subtitles to help you find the answers.
Practice Proportion On pg 14 practice drawing a face in proportion. Use the video to the left and the image in your booklet to help as a reference. Try drawing the image given to you, then either look in the mirror or at someone across from you and try to draw their specific proportions. It's helpful if you set up your proportion lines first and then add their unique features. |
Day 4: Critique Day- Students will need to make this up in class.
Day 5: Contrast

Step 1: Watch the video to the left on Value and Contrast.
Step 2: Answer the following questions about the information in that video.

Day 6: Emphasis
Step 1: Click through the slides to the left. Answer the question in the slides on pg 17 in your booklet.
Step 2: In your booklet write a brief statement on how you are creating emphasis in your project. Make sure you use the elements of art to describe your work. Practice Emphasis: In your booklet on pg17 draw a new composition that show emphasis using a focal point. See if you can also create a composition that does not show emphasis. |
Day 7: Critique Day- Students will need to make this up in class.
Day 8: Pattern and Repetition
Step 1: Click through the slide to the left. On pg19 answers the question in the slides.
Step 2: Choose one of the artists in the slide show. Draw a small sketch of their artwork and then write 2 or more sentences on how the artist uses pattern and repetition and how it makes you feel. Explain your answers.( Ex. Henri Matisse's paper cut outs show repetition with the elements of shape and color. He also used different sizes to create a pattern from small to large. This works spacing and use of primary and secondary colors gives me a feeling of lightness and happiness.) Practice Pattern and Repetition: On pg. 19 in your booklet use pattern and repetition to create a mood. How would "angry" look as a repeated pattern? How would "sad" look as a repeated pattern? You can use angry and sad or you can choose two other moods to represent as a pattern. |
Day 9: Project Planner- Regardless of where you are on your first project you will need to set it aside for our clay unit.
Day 10-16: Clay Unit- students will need to be in class for clay unit. You can not do this unit at home.
Day 17: Variety
Step 1: Click through the slides. On pg34 answer the questions on the slide.
Step 2: Choose on of the artist, draw a small sketch of their work and write 2 sentences on how that artist shows variety and how it makes you feel. Practice Variety: On pg 34 use mark making to create a variety of types of marks. |
Day 19: Critique- Students will need to be in class
Day 20: Unity and Balance

Step 1: Click through the slides. On pg36 answer the questions on the slide. Step 2: Choose on of the artist, draw a small sketch of their work and write 2 sentences on how that artist shows unity and balance and how it makes you feel. Practice Variety: Watch the video on the rule of thirds below. Then on pg 34 use the rule of thirds for create a composition. |
